Fruity Notes: Sour Cherries

by karen

For those of us lucky to get a fruit share, we will be getting Sour Cherries. They are a delicacy–great for cooking and often used in pies. But they are sour! Some eat them fresh, but they are used in cooking, especially soups, pork dishes and pies and liquers are made from them. I wonder what I will do with them, so I’ve found a couple of articles about them that you might find informative.

The cherry has bee used for centuries as a medicinal plant. It was used by Native Americans to relieve sore throat and stomach pain and as a health tonic. It is rich in antioxidants and potassium.

That cherry shake sounds pretty good! I’m really not much of a baker and stick to extremely simple dessert making. So I came across a couple super easy recipes for sour cherries that I wanted to share:

Fizzy Sour Cherry Lemonade (with Vodka!)

    Sour Cherry Vodka

and I came across an amazing photo of Cream Cheese Sour Cherry Popsicles -the kind you make in those cute little plastic pop makers- but the recipe is in Hungarian!

    Does anyone know Hungarian?
