Overheard and Observed at Pick-Up on 6/14
I overheard talks of a scape, tomato and goat cheese omelet. This sounded like a great idea especially for some of my farm fresh eggs. Whay are you doing with your harvest?
Barbara Rosen observed some wild greens included in the salad mix wrote to the farm to find whether this was intentional or not. It was intentional. She says:
If you look carefully at the goodies in yoursalad, you will spot some things you probably thought were weeds. Yes! The same stuff growing out of that crack in the sidewalk! Only nice and clean. Enjoy!

To me the big news at at last week’s pickup was pea shoots. I don’t remember getting them last year, nor did several other people I overheard discussing it. By the time I got mine home they were looking a bit wan, so I washed and spun them and put them in the fridge overnight, thinking that would pick them up a bit. When I looked at them the next morning, however, they appeared unchanged. Not to be deterred, I chopped them and added them (raw) to an omelette (using eggs from my egg share!) along with a few dollops of creme fraiche. Success! The very minimal cooking they received as omelette filling perked them right up, and they became crunchy and brilliantly green, with an amazing pea and also minty flavor (I guess now I see why the pea with mint pairing is so frequent!). Yum!
